If it makes me feel, it makes me write. Over the years I've sent out thousands of thoughts, not sure anyone would hear me or care. I just wanted to find that someone who needed something positive that day. Here I am 15 years later, still writing about feelings and struggles because I know I'm not the only one going through. I know I'm not the only one trying to hold it together when screaming would be more cathartic.
The difference now is I don't have to bury my truth in fiction or make light of my struggle because I find that authenticity is the key to forming lasting bonds and finding those meant to accompany us on the journey through life. So I let it flow.
This year I'll turn 50 years old, and I am extremely proud of the woman Tonya D. Floyd has become. I've been hurt, ignored, belittled, overlooked, underestimated, embarrassed, disrespected and a list of things meant to destroy me; yet I continue to overcome and I'm still open to love. Let it come for me; I'm ready.
