In a small back alley in Tokyo, there is a cafe which has been serving carefully brewed coffee for more than one hundred years. But this coffee shop offers its customers a unique experience: the chance to travel back in time.
In Before the Coffee Gets Cold, we meet four visitors, each of whom is hoping to make use of the cafe's time-travelling offer, in order to: confront the man who left them, receive a letter from their husband whose memory has been taken by early onset Alzheimer's, to see their sister one last time, and to meet the daughter they never got the chance to know.
But the journey into the past does not come without risks: customers must sit in a particular seat, they cannot leave the cafe, and finally, they must return to the present before the coffee gets cold . . .
Toshikazu Kawaguchi's beautiful, moving story - translated from Japanese by Geoffrey Trousselot - explores the age-old question: what would you change if you could travel back in time? More importantly, who would you want to meet, maybe for one last time?

Toshikazu Kawaguchi knyga „Before the Coffee Gets Cold“ man visai patiko, tačiau turiu pripažinti, kad ji gali pasirodyti gana monotoniška ir kartais netgi šalta (galbūt taip yra dėl vertimo). Skaitant šią knygą, pamąsčius apie bendrą visumą atrodo, kad kiekviena moteris, apie kurią rašo Kawaguchi, turi tik vieną tikslą gyvenime. Momentais gana aiškiai matosi, kad knygos autorius – vyras. Pirmoji istorija pasakoja apie protingą, karjeros siekiančią moterį, kuri plėšosi tarp emocijų, verkia dėl vyro, kuris pasirinko siekti savo karjerą vietoje jos net nepasitaręs, neispėjęs... Antroji istorija yra apie moterį, kuri visą savo gyvenimą paskiria rūpintis vyru, sergančiu demencija. Nors pati istorija gal ir nebūtų problemiška, skaitant kitas istorijas, pradeda ryškėti tam tikra tema, apart to pasakojimas jautrus, turbūt labiausiai man patikęs. Trečioji istorija – apie moterį, kuri pasirenka siekti savo svajonės apart vadovaujant šeimos verslui. Tačiau netekus savo jaunesnės sesers, ji jaučiasi priversta dirbti šeimos versle dėl draugės kaltės jausmo, nes „tai buvo tai, ko norėjo tavo sesuo.“ Paskutinė istorija: moteris nusprendžia pastoti ir pagimdyti vaiką, nors visą gyvenima žinojo, kad nuo to mirs?... Visumoje, knyga verta dėmesio, jei patinka melancholiški ir ramūs pasakojimai, tačiau turite būti pasiruošę susidurti su pasakojimu, kuris gali jaustis gana stereotipinis ir kai kuriais atvejais emociniu požiūriu ribotas.
Ši knyga yra be galo įdomi, gera ,bet tuo pačiu mane privertė verkti kėkvieno skyriaus gale. Labai gražiai pasakojamos istorijos ir labai “lovable” veikėjai. Šią knygą rekomenduoju perskaityti žmonėms kurie kažkada gailėjosi dėl savo veiksmų ir mąstė kas būtų jeigu galėtume atsukti laiką atgal.
Likau sužavėta...Kokia nuostabi knyga! Labai liūdna, bet tuo pačiu šviesi.
