Laurie's idyllic retirement in the Surrey hills is shattered by the unexpected appearance of a ghostly figure. Desperately craving sanctuary, she flees to the beautiful Italian countryside, where she is nourished by old friends and the traditional way of village life. However, even there she cannot escape him.

Who is the ghost and what does he want? Laurie must battle with these questions if she is ever to be left alone. She must find the courage to tackle this mystery head on and alone if she or the ghost is ever to be free. This journey takes her into the Jewish faith and back to her working life decades ago.
