This journal is about loving your dog throughout its life-beginning with the joys of owning a dog, as it becomes part of the family, to the concerns that emerge when your dog becomes ill and, finally, when it is time to make the difficult decision to say goodbye. When to Say Goodbye-A Dog Story includes how my husband and I coped when our companion, Ebony, a standard poodle, developed epilepsy at age ten and later dementia. We share what we learned and how we handled challenging situations. We know how worried owners become when their dog suffers from a serious illness. We hope our experience and the recommendations provided at the end of the journal will be of some help living with your dog's illness, enjoying the quality of life remaining, and knowing when to shepherd them to the next stage.
