A single life gets built from year after year of taking on the reality you wake up to every morning, bigger in retrospect that it ever seemed in real time. You marry, get educated, have children and careers, and each component is thickly populated with countless lesser worlds of connection. Salt this with emotions carried throughout, and you've got far more than any multi-volume biography could contain. Unless life has meaning, why would find the energy to go through all that? And if it does have meaning, where does that come from? Is there a newer story to be told that puts our lives in a meaningful, yet believable context?
