Wendy Pini's Masque of the Red Death (el. knyga) (skaityta knyga) | knygos.lt

Aprašymas

A decadent far-future gothic nightmare!

Masque of the Red Death is a sweeping, 400-page graphic novel reimagining of Edgar Allan Poe’s classic tale, conceived, written and illustrated by internationally renowned creator Wendy Pini. This definitive edition presents the full 366-page graphic novel, includes Poe’s original story The Mask of the Red Death, newly illustrated by Wendy Pini, and concludes with an afterword and curated sketchbook section.

Set in a decadent far-future world of scientific excess and looming catastrophe, the story follows brilliant geneticist Anton Prosper, whose pursuit of immortality leads to a discovery that spirals into a bio-technical plague threatening all life. When the enigmatic young prodigy Steffan Kabala enters his orbit, their bond ignites a transformative passion that reshapes both their destinies—and the fate of the world.

Developed over two decades in Wendy Pini’s imagination, this deeply personal opus draws on gothic horror traditions while blending influences from Japanese manga, anime, and Chinese donghua to create haunting, hallucinatory visions of beauty and terror. As re-envisioned here, Poe’s fatalism gives way to a radical reframing: even in the shadow of death, love endures as the ultimate force.

A tragic love story, techno-thriller, and gothic fantasy in equal measure, this long-awaited work stands as Wendy Pini’s personal, ambitious reinterpretation of Poe’s legacy, and a striking meditation on mortality, desire, and hope.
