Voice Notes from the Abyss is a darkly comic, deeply ironic, and often very funny, poetry collection of short poems. It offers a sharp-witted analysis, critique and celebration of the present digital age we all find ourselves in – but especially, Millennial and Gen Z people, looking for love, fame and meaning, in what can seem an abyss of narcissism, self-display and excess. Hirani uses a traditional poetic formalism in new experimental ways to approach the current zeitgeist, to try and locate hope and a silver lining in the absurd darkness of this chaotic tech-bro-led moment. Sometimes weird, sometimes laugh out loud funny, it captures where we are now.
