This index is an alphabetical listing of wills recorded in local courts of Virginia 1632-1800, and of administrations on estates shown by inventories of the estates recorded in books of local courts 1632-1800, has long been considered one of the more important sourcebooks for the Virginia and West Virginia genealogist. Since West Virginia became a state in 1863, many West Virginia records can be found in this work. There are more than 50,000 individuals listed in this volume, the county in which the wills or administrations are recorded, the baptismal name, and the year recorded.
