Several recent studies have sought to evaluate the applicability of predictive ground-motion techniques developed for a host region, and transfer them to a target region (for example, Scherbaum and others, 2004; Cotton and others, 2006; Douglas, 2007; Stafford and others, 2008; Douglas and Mohais, 2009). The necessity for this practice is often driven by the lack of knowledge regarding the source and attenuation characteristics of ground-motion in the target region where the model is to be applied.
