Combining photography, historical research, and oral testimony, Lo Calzo documents how performances such as tchiloli, danço congo, and auto de Floripes have become enduring expressions of cultural resistance and collective memory. Through this living tradition, the book reveals how art, ritual, and performance serve as acts of empowerment against colonial legacies. Rich in visual and historical depth, Tragédia reflects Lo Calzo’s long-term research into maroonage and postcolonial resistance across the Atlantic world.
