Deep in the land of Rome's enemies, a ghost awakens the Emperor Marcus Aurelius with a terrifying message of coming destruction. Finding his army hemmed in by the barbarians and his troops stalked by evil dreams, the man known as the Philosopher-king discovers that the prophecy of the evil spirit is upon them. Two of Rome's mighty legions, Apollo and Thunder, arrive at this dark moment from a distant part of the Roman Empire. They come in answer to a call for help from their beloved ruler.
