Confirmed travel addict Dan Slater is moving from London to South Africa, and somehow he persuades his long-suffering girlfriend to join him on an overland trek across the dark continent from Cairo to Cape Town. What he doesn't tell her is that their budget for the five-month trip is only $10 per day! Using only the most delapidated transport, sleeping in the most unsavoury accommodation, and consuming the cheapest food available, they trawl south constantly confronted by discomfort, despair and derangement.
