The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, published in1900, is the first of fourteen Oz-books by L.Frank Baum. The author tried to follow Andersen and Grimm`s style elaborating the first American fairy tale that inspired many fantasy novels afterwards. It was an indisputable success also thanks to the popular Broadway musical and film adaptation that followed, respectively in 1902 and in1939. In the story, a cyclone transports young Dorothy with her little dog from Kansas to the magical land of Oz, where a lot of adventures will happen to the protagonist. After meeting the Good Witch of the North, Dorothy will have to reach Emerald City to ask the Wizard of Oz for help in order to go back home. On her way, she meets a Scarecrow, a Tin Woodman and a Cowardly Lion who will join her in the journey. The four friends embark then in a bizarre adventure, confident that the Wizard will help them to realize their wishes: Dorothy needs to find the way to return home, the Scarecrow wants a brain, the Tin Woodman wants a heart and the Cowardly Lion wants to be courageous. The Wizard agrees to help them only if they will manage to fight the Wicked Witch of the West, that nobody has ever defeated...
