This book deals with historical facts as background. The story describes events before, during and after the last war in Indonesia and the loss to the Netherlands of a colony which in longitude was the largest in the world. The historical events are woven into a love story in which four inseparable friends, one Dutch, one Chinese, one woman, (Hungarian by birth) and one Indonesian freedom fighter, are taking part. The story starts with a prediction that a wartime yellow-skinned race will occupy all the islands of Netherlands - East - Indies. The prediction is told by an illiterate Indonesian fisherman to a government official (the Dutchman in the story). The prediction turns out to be correct in every respect - except for one notable exception.
