On Crynn Dayholt's eighteenth birthday, she spins the wheel. The needle lands on the only black square. For ten years or her death, whichever comes first, she is now the leader of a group of people called the Stalkers. People sent from the safety of the city to clear the outlands of a breed formed by earth's desecration.

Crynn isn't prepared to lead a group of warriors, but when she shows a gift for leadership and bravery, the group she leads gives her their trust. When she's ordered to determine whether there are other survivors in the area, she realizes those who sent her hold a secret.

One Crynn wants to expose.
