Lucius is a thief. He's not ashamed. It is the only way to survive in Rome. At least, the only way that suits Lucius.

He gathers a crew. A half-cyclops who slays monsters in the gladiator games, and who himself is regarded as a monster by most. A one-legged shadowfoot who won't stop lying. A slave risking her life in chariot races.

They plan a daring heist: the lottery pot, the greatest treasure in Rome, hidden deep within a temple. Unfortunately, the treasure is heavily guarded by the wrathful Praetorians, bodyguards of the mad Emperor Caligula. Even more unfortunately, the Praetorians are smelly goatmen.
