After a perilous trans-Atlantic flight Daniel Mortimer is driven by his host Peter to the latter's home in the country. He catches glimpses of historic Boston where Peter points out the Freedom Trail, a red line connection the State House with the cottage where Paul Revere once lived. Travelling through space entails travelling back into the past and the ghosts that haunt it.
