Aprašymas

When she was only seven years old, Carla Crossno spent her days sitting on a single sofa cushion in a stranger's apartment, trying to keep her little sister and little brother quiet (and safe) while their mother worked.

She built a career helping nonprofits tell their stories. She almost never told that one.

Because when you work in this field, you quickly learn that people want to hear about your successes, not your scars. So, we professionalize ourselves right out of the very thing that makes our work both powerful and relatable.

The Storyteller's Imperative argues that the polished version isn't working anymore, and the research proves it. Trust in institutions has collapsed. What we trust in now is each other - people we know, faces we recognize, and honest accounts of what happened.

Drawing on three decades working at EY, United Way Miami, and with dozens of nonprofit and foundation clients, Carla shares how to find the story only your organization can tell, choose the messenger your audience will believe and build the trust that makes every one of your asks easier. By being brave enough to share the whole story.

Your scars are not liabilities. They are credentials.
