The author conveys the horrific pain and brutality of the life he lived under the ostensible care of Catholic priests while he spent five years at a Catholic school in Auckland, New Zealand. His writing is frank, vulnerable, and beautiful, if such a term can be used in association with the ugliness he experienced.
This is a book that everyone needs to read.
