Serendipity is the name of a house with a life of its own, and a well-hidden secret; a gate into the fields beyond its boundaries, which to fifteen-year-old Anne Edwards is as good as a portal into another world. Seeking to escape her controlling father, and annoying brothers, Anne delights in the time away from the confines of her family home.

Thanks to her secret escape, she meets Claudine and her handsome brother Jacques, who broaden Anne's world in different ways, and by the time Anne has a daughter of her own, she knows the world is changing around her.
Meanwhile, Serendipity stands strong and silent, observing the lives that come and go under its roof, as Anne's daughter grows up and also has a daughter. The secret gate remains hidden, until Anne finds a suitable person to whom she can pass her secret.
Serendipity is not about a house, but about the people who live there, and the ever-evolving nature of life and society. It is about family ties, life and death, love, and music.
