He becomes embroiled in family feuds and underhand dealings. He meets a woman and falls in love, then discovers her mother had disappeared two years previously, and so he sets off on a journey to find her.
Then the discovery of ruins of an old abbey on the edge of the village, leads him to discover some illegal practices being planned by a multinational corporation who want to build a factory on local farmland.
