This collection of linked stories follows one woman through the first one-hundred days after her final period. Each entry is anchored to a fruit or vegetable, cherries, corn, strawberries, lemons, pears, as ordinary foods become portals to strange visitations, small hauntings and unruly transformations. Hot flashes set off popcorn storms. A mirror offers a life that never quite arrives. Lemons draw strangers to her door. Pies appear, unasked-for. Blending the domestic with the uncanny, these vignettes trace a body in transition and a world that no longer obeys familiar seasons. The result is a darkly funny, intimate meditation on menopause.
