The interesting part of this work by Bonaventure is that for us it is a return to mysticism for a Church which has been embattled by the sophistication of the rational to a point that the only mystic experience we are permitted to tolerate these days is that of sci-fi films, paranormal documentaries, or popular film culture which insists we believe in something "out there" without ever daring to suggest that God may be "out there."
