The war in Ukraine rages on. If there is one force that can turn the tide of the war it must be a spiritual force, for that of arms and weapons has only succeeded in slaughter and destruction. Spiritual force? It has been absent for some time in Europe. A century and a half has gone by since the German philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche declared that 'God is dead.' Yet the continent was built on Christianity and its western part, on Catholicism. Pope Francis is a charismatic leader, though beyond the excitement he generates he is mostly ignored. Pope Constantine II, our fictional Pope, resembles Francis in all but name. Can the Pope rekindle the force of peace by going to Kyiv and placing his body and the sacrifice of the mass between the combatants? Everyone intrigues against this fateful mission. Can Christianity and the Pope succeed in stopping another European slaughter?
