Erick Olson polishes his bid to purchase the business of his dreams-Whitman Telephone Company. The company is located in the bucolic Palouse Hills, near the wheat farm where Erick was raised. With only days until the offer deadline, his financing falls through. He's left scrambling for the funds he needs to close the deal. Just as Erick feels his dream slipping away, his attorney introduces a banker willing to consider the loan Erick requires. Even though the timing seems too good to be true, the Spokane bank agrees to make the needed loan.

Soon after the deal closes, Erick discovers his new and terrifying reality. The Bank is controlled by Michael Romano, a capo in the Ferrari Crime Family. The Family operates a hugely profitable internet porn billing scam. They coerce Erick into bringing Whitman into the fold. Struggling with Romano's increasing demands, Erick fears for his life.

Amy Summers, Erick's lover and Whitman's CFO, questions him about large invoices from Romano's billing company. Erick confesses he has complied with Romano's demands to protect them and their investment.

Romano pressures Erick to produce more and more cash. Expecting regulators to uncover the fraudulent billing schemes, he considers his future. Erick arrives at a meeting with his attorney only to discover the lawyer murdered-execution-style. Gripped by fear, Erick flees with Amy, sacrificing his lifelong dream.
