The first work, The Life of Prayer, examines the need for Christian prayer and reflection from multiple perspectives. Quoting the New Testament scriptures, Simpson expounds on the words of the gospels, explaining their continued importance to the faithful in the present day. The second paper, The Power of Stillness, is a short but sublime meditation on the importance of a moment's contemplative silence. That moment of quiet which follows a concluded prayer, recited hymn, or indeed much music in the church or outside it, is discussed.
