From 1975 to 1979, the Khmer Rouge took control of Cambodia, violently forcing 17-year-old Sokphal Din, along with his family, out of their home, creating chaos and uncertainty.
What followed was slavery, malnutrition, disease, and mass extermination, ultimately resulting in the genocide of two million people, including many of Sokphal's relatives and friends. His mother and some of his siblings survived the inhumane conditions through their great determination to live.
