The Gospel of Abgar, which is a segment of the Greek part of the Jordan Lead Codices, incorporates among other texts the epistle sent by Abgar to Jesus and its reply, and a short prophecy made by Jesus. Based on this and on the fact that the lead codices were found sealed, some have speculated that they are actually the lost collection of sealed books mentioned in the Book of Revelation, claiming that they refer to the second coming of Christ. According to scholars, the Gospel of Abgar may date to as early as 33 AD, in which case it may be older than the canonical books of the New Testament. This makes it extremely valuable for Biblical scholarship, especially since it may also contain the first historically attested mandylion (portrait of Christ) ever.
