At the Trompepetit Hospital, a man is at the end of his rope. He can barely breathe. Half-conscious, the moral principles he was taught when he was a child emerge in his mind. The atrocities and depravities of his life stretch out before him. Suddenly, he feels like a great sinner. He is frightened by the sight of Hell. He calls his schoolmate Alberic, now a Roman Catholic priest, to confess all his sins and obtain the salvation of his soul.

Thence, a seven-day confession is held at the hospital during which he confesses his crimes. But will it be enough to obtain the forgiveness of the Almighty ?
