Issa Hassan Al-Yasiri pays tribute to Arab culture through his anthology The Herb. Issa skilfully adopts a prose structure to build poetic images which capture the mind's imagination. Written over a series of years, Issa explores different techniques and wanders through the no man's land between idealism and reality. Drawing on Iraqi folklore and history, The Herb takes a deeper look into world politics and the current circumstances of third world countries. Professor Abdul Wahid Mohammed had an important role in translating Issa Hassan Al-Yasiri's poetry and presenting it to the English reader.
