Then he loaded me down with the bag that he had been carrying on his shoulder and left. I was so surprised that a lump rose in my throat and I could not even say 'Goodbye.' He had already gone a good distance before my voice returned and I could call out to him. He turned and said, not so much to me as to the whole group, 'Help each other out.
