Days after slaying Unktehi, the great monster of Lake Michigan, Dr. Lancaster Hawthorne finds himself in New Orleans on a contract to hunt creatures that should not exist in the New World. But cryptids that serve as the original source material for vampire myths are only where his problems begin. Under the guise of a mall development project, a secret division of the United States military is digging beneath the City of New Orleans. Lance is told the real purpose of their mission is to investigate a huge, pristine pyramid that has been found in the caverns beneath the city, and to deal with the creatures that make their home nearby. Lance soon learns that the caverns are hiding more than pyramids and vampires however. Aided by international merchant of death Hugo Farrell and corporate headhunter Annadonna San Michel, and again facing the dangerous serial killer Bud, Lance must face unimaginable dangers with a mysterious and deadly link to his family's past.
