Hedley the hedgehog loves to explore. He gets his chance when both he and James lose their homes on the family farm to progress. Together with Grandfather they travel from Wales to Somerset. During the journey, Hedley has adventures with other woodland creatures.

This is Valerie's first children's book. Originally from England, her interest in hedgehogs - Britain's most popular animal - stems from childhood. It was during a stay with relatives in the English countryside that she first encountered these spiny little creatures. Her aunt told her that hedgehogs love the taste of milk, and if she put out a saucer of milk for them, they would come around for a visit. So she did... they did... and a lifelong fascination was born.
