Aprašymas
From the Voice of the Vancouver Canucks, learn the stories of beloved sports caster Jim Robson in his own words.
Although primarily known as the ‘Voice of the Vancouver Canucks’ for over 4 decades, Canadian sports broadcast legend Jim Robson did the play-by-play coverage on radio and television for over 5,000 games of professional hockey, baseball, basketball, football, lacrosse and more. He has been inducted into five Halls of Fame, has a street named after him, the broadcast gondola in Vancouver's Roger’s Arena bears his name and his many awards and accolades include the Foster Hewitt Memorial Award and the Order of British Columbia for his outstanding contributions to sports media. His life spanned a time before sports broadcasting was a career to watching sports online as a fan post-retirement. For 12 years until his death in February 2026, Jim met with his daughter Jennifer every week to walk and talk together. She encouraged him to recount stories from his childhood and remarkable career, the events and people he met and worked with, the major influences of his life, and his reflections on the changes in broadcasting over the decades, as well as interactions with leading names in sports and entertainment, many of whom are now themselves part of history. Jim and Jennifer worked together to compile this first-hand, never- before-published account.
Jim was a witness to and participant in significant moments in BC’s and Canada’s sports history, and to the development of sports broadcasting during the most impactful decades of radio and TV. His remarkable memory, even at the age of 90, could instantly recall scores from games half a century ago, names of people he met only once, and anecdotes and trivia that only someone inside the room could know. This is a book for all fans of sports, BC and Canadian history, the development of the broadcasting industry, and the relationship between fathers and daughters everywhere.
