First published in 1958, Technical Education and Social Change examines the social forces which shaped the development of technical education in England and Wales, the reasons for the late start in the 19th century, and for the slow progress in the inter-war years.

This book analyzes various social factors which influenced the recruitment of students to the technical colleges. The extent to which the educational system responded to the changing needs of an industrial society is examined, and the social forces which hindered this adjustment are brought to light. Finally, important questions about trends and policies for training of technologists and technicians are discussed.
