First published in 1974, Teaching Clever Children, 7-11, a pioneer of its kind in Great Britain, is an account of the experience gained in teaching and observing a group of clever children in a primary school over a period of four years. Professor Tempest looks at the problem of identifying clever children and of challenging their abilities in school. He examines in particular the classroom problems posed by highly intelligent children between the ages of seven and eleven in normal mixed ability classes in primary schools. The activities of the children are described in detail, and the author suggests practical solutions and gives concrete examples of teaching methods suitable for gifted children.
