Set for publication in 2020, this book will recount narratives of the rise of five of the most murderous dictators --Strongmen-- of the 20th century. By exploring the lives of Mussolini, Hitler, Stalin, Mao, and Saddam Hussein, I plan to show how such men gained power, how they were able to win over their countries, and then embark on such murderous paths --leading to the deaths of tens of millions of people. At every step, they had willing accomplices and often adoring crowds. It is also a book about how quickly Democracy can vanish.
