In a world marked by bias and prejudice and a blatant disregard for truth, Andrew Joosse writes of faith-the hope and assurance which it brings. He conveys that, in the words of Martin Luther, "Life is not righteous, but growth in righteousness; is not health but healing... we are not yet what we shall be, but we are growing toward it." In believing, we find what we see is not all there is: we are not yet what we shall be, but we are growing toward it. In faith, we find "assurance about what we do not see" (Hebrews 11:1). We see this faith portrayed in the Gospel, in what Jesus was about. It is not produced in moral living, but it results in moral living. It is captured not by good intentions, but by love and respect for the people with whom we rub elbows-on the street, in the workplace, in the home. It is offered freely when we turn to God and confess our need, and it is marked by trust that the One who gives faith is also faithful.
