Joe Bishop, though everyone knows I was barely qualified to be a sergeant to begin with. So why did UNEF trust me again to command our newly stolen alien starship, the Flying Dutchman?

Well, someone had to keep our side of the bargain I made with the ancient AI who helped save us all. A promise to help him contact others of his kind. Not to mention UNEF didn't expect the ship to ever return. That's why they thoughtfully outfitted it with nukes for self-destruction. If anything goes wrong, we can erase any evidence that filthy humans were flying around the galaxy on a joyride. I don't foresee any problems there.

But first, this is my chance on behalf of billions of people to give a middle-finger salute to the Kristang and blow them out of the stars. Even if it's the last thing I do . . .
