People who have known or have been victims of a sociopath describe them as having no conscience with an "empty" soul. They are always on the lookout for potential victims of their schemes and they can be very smooth talking and cunning. Some of them learned well from a parent who was also a sociopath. If they are adults, they have had many years to perfect their treacherous ways.
If you have ever met a sociopath, you may find them emotionally cold, calculating and cunning, possessing superficial charm. Poor souls who fall victim to their treachery take them at face value and believe their lies. Some probably even admired them when they first met. Sociopaths know well the type of gullible victim they are always looking for. When they find a likely victim they know how to push all of the right buttons. Once they find and push the right buttons, their amusement never seems to be satiated.
Once you have figured them out and no longer are the "willing victim" for their amusement, they will not stick around very long as they detest anyone who has uncovered their act. If they cannot scam or con someone, they see no reason to be around them. If you are unfortunate enough to have a close relationship with a sociopath such as someone in your immediate family, there will inevitably come a day when you have "had enough" and will decide you cannot tolerate their unacceptable behavior any longer. Surprisingly, you may find that they don't care and they will just move on to a greener pasture... to someone else.
