"You Can't Go Home Again" Or so the saying goes-a saying based on the assumption that everyone changes after leaving home. In 1962 Karen Marie Arnaud left home for college, changed her name to Corey, found friends in the budding women's movement, and fulfilled her ambition to become a doctor. In 1982 Doctor Corey Arnaud returned to Brossard Summit to replace her father as the sole doctor serving a backwoods community where folks still didn't believe a woman could be a doctor. Only then, after fully attaining her childhood dreams, did Corey realize the price she paid for those dreams. Danny Lindstrom was a quarterback in high school and again up at the university. He was a fighter pilot in Vietnam until he was badly wounded in an attack on a Saigon bar. Then he drifted. Life had always brought good things Danny's way without any effort on his part. Now good fortune brought him only a job flying pot up from South America followed by a lengthy prison term in Florida. In 1982 he returned to Brossard County to work on his father's farm as the main condition of his parole. Neither his father nor his brother really wanted Danny home, but they needed cheap labor.Stranded in the isolated town, Corey and Danny are forced to face their new realities. Few people in town would imagine them turning to each other for comfort.
