Trouble shows up for recently divorced Sarah Murray and Layers Bakery in the picturesque high-desert town of Bishop, California when her black sheep cousin appears suddenly after an eleven-year absence-mere minutes before a murder takes place.

With Sarah's bakery competitor dead and the police focusing in on the most dubious of suspects-herself-she must launch her own investigation to find the real killer.

But complications arise when Sarah is tasked with organizing a local Fall Colors Festival in addition to balancing her bakery's quirky staff and the burgeoning nonprofit need to train errant high school students in workplace skills.

With a little help from Jake and his K-9 partner, Sarah navigates an off-the-books investigation...until the killer makes good on scrumptious threats.
