This book examines the conditions needed for communities to help the poor overcome poverty. It looks at how the poor themselves build communities to meet their needs and why these communities can serve as a model for sustainable neighborhoods. The thesis of this book is that those living in poverty know how to build neighborhoods that meet their needs and have much to offer on how to help the poor overcome poverty. In order to defend this thesis, neighborhood design is examined from the perspective of those living in poverty.
