INTRODUCTION: In undertaking to write a memoir of the late Sir Victoria Brooke, coupled with extracts from his letters and diaries relating to travel and sporting adventures, I have not been actuated by the feeling that I possess any special qualification for the task, except that of intimate friendship extending over twenty years...... This early works also contains a chapter on his researches in Natural History and is a fascinating novel of the period. Many of the earliest books, particularly those dating back to the 1900's and before, are now extremely scarce and increasingly expensive.
