This book challenges conventional economics by revisiting classical American pragmatism and institutional economics. It shows how economic behaviour is shaped by social institutions, culture and habits, while avoiding both individualism and collectivism. Drawing on thinkers such as Veblen, Dewey, Cooley and Mead, the book develops a broad framework grounded in evolutionary thinking, concern for human wellbeing and a critique of corporate power. It argues that these traditions remain highly relevant for social reform in the post-Trump era and for facing global social challenges facing contemporary society.
