Aprašymas

Exploring both his early masterpieces and later works, an exquisitely illustrated biography of the celebrated landscape artist.

Samuel Palmer (1805-81) is one of Britain's most beloved artists, celebrated for the visionary landscapes he created as a young man in Shoreham, Kent. Yet his later career has often been overshadowed by these early masterpieces and by accounts of personal tragedy. This richly illustrated book offers a fresh and balanced view of Palmer's life and work, tracing the continuities that linked his youthful achievements to his later paintings, watercolors, and etchings. Christiana Payne shows how his distinctive artistic vision was sustained by a lifelong engagement with the pastoral landscape and with the close observation of nature, or what he called the "visible creation." Accessible and insightful, the book introduces readers to both familiar and lesser-known works, presenting an artist whose imagination remained remarkably consistent across a long and evolving career.
