Reagan was elected governor of California in 1966 and served two terms. He ran for president in 1980 and won the election. He served two terms as president from 1981 to 1989. During his presidency, Reagan lowered taxes, increased military spending, and negotiated peace treaties with the Soviet Union. He left office with high approval ratings and was nicknamed "The Great Communicator." Reagan died in 2004 at the age of 93.
