Aprašymas

The book accompanying the 'Ice Age' exhibition tells the story of the fascinating world of the Palaeolithic hunter-gatherers of the last Ice Age between around 40,000 and 11,700 years ago. This time frame is intrinsically connected to modern humans (Homo sapiens) and is illustrated by several sites around Krems an der Donau (Lower Austria). Different areas of daily life, from birth to death and complex survival strategies of the highly mobile societies are shown in an exciting and vivid way. Interested readers can look forward to spectacular and internationally recognised finds and findings, such as the baby burials from Krems-Wachtberg, the Ice Age refrigerator from Kammern-Grubgraben or the mammoth remains from a wine cellar in Gobelsburg-Rossgraben. This volume brings to life times long past and gives an impression of the intensive archaeological research carried out by the team of the Austrian Archaeological Institute (OeAI) at the Austrian Academy of Sciences (OeAW).
