Matthew is a professor of Archeology at the University of Northern Colorado and is fluent with many types of ancient languages. He claims to have had multiple lives, and often pontificates about them during his lectures to his students, recalling the past with great detail. As an atheist, one of his self-appointed roles at the university is to break down the faith of the Christian students, which he perceives as mistaken beliefs. One day, as Matthew and his bathrobe exit the tub, he finds himself transported to Ancient Israel, where he is thought to be wearing a Jew's robe. As he awkwardly struggles to learn this new language, he meets jesus of Nazaerth, who challenges his every view.
