The theory of integration and disintegration is considered to be one of the many disciplines of political science. It is concerned with problems of nation-building, tensions between the centre and the marginalised, and between different structures within a political system. Theories of integration and disintegration also apply at the level of international politics or, more broadly, international relations. Integration at the international level is mostly considered as a process leading to political unity.
